Turkish Exporters Assembly Qatar Trade Delegation, 1-3 March 2020

A comprehensive country presentation was given by our Doha Commercial Counselor, Mr. Burak Güreşci, to the members of the trade delegation, who arrived in Doha on March 1, 2020 with THY's scheduled flight. Answering the questions of the delegation participants regarding the market, our Commercial Counselor, Mr. Güreşci, stated that our annual export to Qatar, which imports 30 billion dollars annually from many different countries, is already at the level of 1.1 billion dollars and that he believes that the export figure can reach 2 billion dollars in the short term. The approval process of the economic cooperation agreement signed between the countries continues, that the abolition of the 5% tax on products originating in Turkey, which is currently applied in Qatar in accordance with the said agreement, will provide our producers with a competitive advantage against other countries, and that our exports to Qatar, which is still mandatory, especially in food products, are continuing. He stated that the abolition of the consular approval requirement, which adversely affected them, is even more important than the abolition of customs duties.

On March 2, 2020, within the scope of the business forum before the InterContinental Doha bilateral meetings, our Doha Commercial Counselor Mr. Güreşci, TİM Deputy Secretary General Mr. A. Eser Erginoglu and Qatar Businessmen Association Board Member Mr. Sheikh Faisal Bin Fahad Al Thani made a speech. More than 200 officials from 135 companies from Qatar participated in the bilateral meetings held afterwards. Within the scope of the day-long event, a total of 500 bilateral business meetings were held. The interviews were followed by the Gulftimes and Dar Al Sharq newspapers.
